September 11th
is by an act of Congress in 2001
“Patriot Day” a National Day of Remembrance
See the Congressional record.
Ten years after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01, and it seems as though fewer remembrances are held. Not many are a vigil of 24 hours where people have time to remember and reflect at a time convenient to them, remembering the tragic moments, the dead, the wounded and the brave with bells, cannon, candlelight and prayer.
We will remember the 2,976 individual people who died in the attacks of that morning. More than 6,199 men and women have fought and died in Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. We will remember each one.
In a special way, we will remember the brave men and women of the military who work tirelessly, even to the point of sacrificing their own lives, to bring about true peace rooted in justice.
Area residents from as far as Colebrook, Litchfield, Millerton, Great Barrington and Knights of Columbus Council 1520 are planning the Fourth “Patriot Day Remembrance” held in the Northwest corner of Connecticut. This year's Vigil will begin at Midnight, September 10th and end on midnight September 11th, on the Grounds of St. Josephs Church at the intersection on Rte 7 South and Rte 44, North Canaan. Everyone is invited to attend.
